Cutting the ribbon at the Market Trail
Ribbon cuttings are always happy occasions. At the recent official opening of the Market Trail near the Waterloo Farmer’s Market, a crowd riding bicycles, in strollers, on rollerblades, walking and many local municipal representatives attended. As someone who grew up in a rural setting, we walked all the time to explore the woods, rode our bikes to our neighbours to visit but lacked the connectivity to stores, business or professional services. The system of trails throughout the Region enables people use them for recreation but also as a means to commute to work, get groceries and go to their dentist.
Two of my grandchildren accompanied me. They helped cut the ribbon for the launch. There were several families with small children at the ribbon cutting. It was an appropriate reminder that the plans we make and the investment made in system infrastructure creates the community of today with a vision for tomorrow.
